The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sacked selectors Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq after the national team's abysmal display in the recent held T20 World Cup.
The Men in Green were eliminated from the showpiece tournament in the group-stage. They paid the price for a Super Over defeat against debutants USA in their campaign opener, followed by a nervy six-run defeat at the hands of arch-rivals India.
In a statement released on Wednesday (July 10), the PCB confirmed the termination of both selectors' roles within the national selection committee setup.
"The Pakistan Cricket Board ... has notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee setup," the statement read.
Abdul Razzaq was a member of the men’s and women’s selection committee, while Wahab was a member of the men’s selection committee.
The PCB will provide further updates on the selection committee’s composition in due course.
In the wake of Pakistan's T20 World Cup debacle, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi had promised significant changes. The decision to sack Riaz and Razzaq highlights the PCB's commitment to restructuring and improving the team's prospects going forward.
