The T20 World Cup-winning Indian team finally arrived home as their flight landed in the wee hours of Thursday (July 4) morning at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi.
After beating South Africa in the tournament final last Saturday (June 20), the Men in Blue were left stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl.
The adverse weather condition had forced the authorities to shut down air travel, resulting in the Indian squad staying indoors in their hotel for three days.
With the weather finally clearing in Barbados, Rohit Sharma’s team left the Caribbean shores on Wednesday (July 3) on a chartered plane and reached home amid a rousing reception from the fans.
In Delhi, the Indian contingent is set to be felicitated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They will then travel to Mumbai for an open-bus parade.
The parade is set to begin at Marine Drive and will go on till the Wankhede Stadium before the function at the iconic venue.
Ahead of Team India’s arrival in Mumbai, several pictures and videos of the bus that will be used in the parade are doing rounds on social media.
The decked-out bus can be seen customised with pictures of Indian players posing with the coveted T20 World Cup trophy.
Here’s the video:
The victory parade is scheduled to get underway at 5 PM IST and will conclude at 7 PM, following which BCCI will organise a prize distribution ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah will hand over the staggering prize money of Rs 125 crore to the Rohit Sharma-led side for ending India’s long-standing ICC trophy drought.
