The 2024 T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team's return home has been delayed due to a hurricane-like situation in Barbados. The adverse weather condition has forced the authorities to shut down air travel, resulting in the Indian squad staying indoors in their hotels.

On Saturday (June 29), Rohit Sharma’s team defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup final to end India’s long-standing ICC trophy drought.

The Men in Blue were expected to board the flight for India a day later. However, there's no clarity over their return schedule even on Monday (July 1).

According to a report published in India Today, the Barbados airport had to be shut down, with all flights being cancelled due to the hurricane Beryl threat.

The aforementioned hurricane is Category 4 (the second most severe) and no risk can be taken with regards to air travel. Hence, Team India’s return can't be finalized over the next 24 hours.

As per a report in the Washington Post, Beryl is anticipated to hit the Windward Islands with winds exceeding 130 mph.

The Hurricane Center has reported that the development might see a storm surge between 6 to 9 feet while rainfall in the range of 3 to 6 inches could be expected.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has said that the board will think about the felicitation ceremony once the team jets off from Barbados to India.

"Like you we are also stuck here. After the travel plans are clear, we will think about the felicitation," Shah told PTI.

Notably, some names from India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad are scheduled to travel to Zimbabwe for the five-match T20I series, beginning on July 06 in Harare. The delayed return home has disturbed those plans as well.
