Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag continued his criticism of the Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, especially after his failure against India in the recent Super 8s match of the T20 World Cup 2024 match.

After being asked to bat first post losing the toss, thanks to Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten fifty and contributions from Rohit Sharma (23), Virat Kohli (37) and Rishabh Pant (36) and Shivam Dube (34) helped India to 196/5 in 20 overs.

In reply, Najmul Hossain Shanto (40) Tanzid Hasan (29), and Rishad Hossain (24) were the main scorers for the Tigers, but they could only post 146/8 in 20 overs. India won the match by 50 runs to continue their winning streak.

Former Bangladesh captain Shakib had a forgettable day with the bat against India. In the 13th over, spinner Kuldeep removed the Asian team's experienced batsman for 11 off seven balls.

Virender Sehwag questioned whether Shakib Al Hasan cares anymore about his team or not, speaking after his performance.

"When you have a set batter with you at the crease, at least support him. At least stay out in the middle and spend some time, try to get something out of the match. Instead, only 11 runs were scored off seven deliveries and then he walked back. So, I did not understand that," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

Shakib walked in to bat at the No.5 and smoked a six off Kuldeep, before falling to the left-arm wrist spinner in the same over.

"He has so much experience. So, is he not making the most of it or does he simply not care? or was he thinking that the target is too big and I just scored a six, and now I will score a six off every ball. That's why I said it the last time itself, he needs to make way for a younger player now," Sehwag added.
