Afghanistan recorded a historical win over Australia in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in their recent Super 8s match. The match was played at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St. Vincent, on Sunday, June 23.
Afghanistan was put into bat first after Mitchell Marsh won the toss. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60) and Ibrahim Zadran (51) added 118 runs in 16 overs. Afghanistan proceeded to post 148/6 in 20 overs.
In response, Glenn Maxwell was the only Aussie batter to go past the 12 runs mark and made 59 runs as Australia crumbled for 127 all out. Gulbadin Naib took 4/20, while Naveen Ul Haq took three wickets. Afghanistan won by 21 runs and kept themselves alive in the race for semi-final.
Meanwhile, during the Australian innings, Rahmanullah Gurbaz decided to have a go at Marcus Stoinis when the batter had just came out to bat. Stoinis had dismissed Gurbaz when Afghanistan batted and the keeper gave it back to the all-rounder.
When Gurbaz took the catch and celebrated lavishly, the star all-round player Stoinis was caught behind as he came out to bat in the second innings. Additionally, there was a verbal disagreement between the two players as Stoinis took guard before batting. The identical video clip has been widely shared on social media.
