Pat Cummins, the Australian pacer, took the first hat-trick of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, in his team’s Super 8s match against Bangladesh on June 21. With this feat, he became the second Australian to achieve this feat after Brett Lee, who had taken a hat-trick in the 2007 edition.

Curtis Campher (who took four in four balls), Wanindu Hasaranga, Kagiso Rabada, Karthik Meiyappan, and Josh Little are the other bowlers to have completed hat-tricks at the event.

Pat Cummins’ hat-trick was spread across two overs. He took two wickets in the last two balls of the 18th over he bowled, first rattling the stumps of Mahmudullah and then had Mahedi Hasan caught at third man.

Cummins came back for the 19th over and on the first ball itself, dismissed Towhid Hridoy for 40 runs.

Meanwhile, talking to the presenters after the Bangladesh innings, Cummins admitted that he had forgotten about the hat-trick chance.

I didn't know I was on a hat-trick. I did the previous over, saw it come up on the screen, and by the time the next over came around had totally forgot about it. Think Stoinis ran in from the deep [and] was cheering and everyone's like, oh yeah. So, nice one,” Cummins said.
