Phil Salt of England helped his team hammer the co-hosts West Indies in their T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s stage match at Gros Islet in St Lucia on Thursday.
England won the toss and put West Indies into bat. Johnson Charles (38), Nicholas Pooran, and Rovman Powell (36 each) helped the Windies post 180/4 in 20 overs.
In response, it was an all-out assault by Phil Salt and Jonny Bairstow. Jos Buttler (25) and Moeen Ali (13) kept the momentum going before getting out, but Salt, who made 87* in 47 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes, and Jonny Bairstow, with 48* in 26 balls, took England home by 8 wickets in 17.3 overs.
Salt hammered Romario Shepherd for 30 runs in one over in a pure display of carnage. The assault came in the 16th over of the run chase when Shepherd came on to bowl his second over having conceded 11 runs in his first over.
Salt smashed 4, 6, 4, 6, 6, 4 in the over to heap misery on the Windies and shut out any hopes they were harboring of a victory.
