Marcus Stoinis was the star for Australia as they registered a comfortable win over Scotland and helped England qualify for the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Had Scotland won the match, they would have made history by reaching the Super 8 stage. However, Australia maintained its dominance and unblemished record against associate nations with a nail-biting victory of 5 wickets at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia on Sunday, June 16.
While chasing a tough 181 runs, Australia struggled early on, trailing at 60/3. However, the 80-run partnership between Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis kept Australia ahead in the chase.
Stoinis continued his brilliant form in the tournament, scoring a quick-fire 59 from just 29 balls. He was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his innings against Scotland.
Ahead of the game, Kangaroo pacer Josh Hazlewood had ruffled a few feathers as he said Australia looked to go easy against Scotland ahead of the match. However, England coach Matthew Mott and pacer Pat Cummins regarded it as a joke.
