USA’s cricket team on Friday (June 14) created history as they qualified for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 after their last group match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain in Lauderhill, Florida.

This washout impacted Pakistan the most as the Men in Green were knocked out of the tournament. Rain and wet outfield meant even the toss couldn’t take place and USA progressed to the next round from Group A alongside India.

Social media was abuzz following the elimination of Babar Azam’s team and USA’s advancement to the Super 8s.

Notably, USA made it to the Super 8 in their debut T20 World Cup appearance mainly thanks to their Super Over win over Pakistan. This result also gave USA an automatic qualification in the 2026 T20 World Cup, slated to be held in India and Sri Lanka

The first-round exit, however, is a bitter disappointment for Pakistan, who were the runners-up in the 2022 edition of T20 World Cup on Australian soil.
