T20 World Cup 2024: USA cricketers engage in social media spat over old Virat Kohli remarks

USA suffered a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of India in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

USA lost to India in New York | GettyUSA suffered their first defeat in the ongoing T20 World Cup on Wednesday (June 12) as the tournament co-hosts went down against the star-studded Indian side by seven wickets in New York.

Opting to bowl first, India restricted the USA to 110/8 in 20 overs on the back of Arshdeep Singh’s four-wicket haul (4 for 9 in 4 overs).

Chasing the target on a tricky pitch, the Men in Blue were reduced to 39/3 but Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten half-century and Shivam Dube’s composed 31* took them over the line with 10 deliveries to spare.

After the game, two USA cricketers - Jaskaran Malhotra and Ali Khan - had a social media spat. While Jaskaran last represented USA in 2022, Khan is currently playing for them in the T20 World Cup.

In a now-deleted post, Jaskaran shared a meme from another account on X, which poked fun at USA opener Shayan Jahangir, who bagged a golden duck against India.

The post stated an earlier quote from Jahangir, where he said, "Last year in the World Cup qualifiers, I told the ICC people that one of my dreams is to play against Virat Kohli and show him who's king."

The post further added, "And this happened when he played against Virat and team," with a picture of Jahangir walking back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.

Reacting to the post, Ali Khan wrote, "Never expected this from my ex team mate. Hate towards another player! Very unprofessional of you @JaskaranUSA."

To which, Jaskaran responded, “Just to let you know. Go see my post. How am I supporting you and my team. Please go and check brother.”

Notably, Jaskaran rose to fame after hitting six sixes in an over against Papua New Guinea in 2021. He is only the second cricketer to achieve this feat in ODIs.
