Former Pakistan captain Salim Malik stated that Imad Wasim deliberately wasted balls during the match against India in the T20 World Cup 2024 encounter to make the chase tough.
Pakistan faltered badly in their chase of 120 runs against India in New York on Sunday as they finished on 113/7 and lost by 6 runs. Mohammad Rizwan top-scored with 31 in 44 balls.
On the other hand, Imad Wasim, who came to bat at no.5, took 23 balls to score 15 runs in the losing cause. Jasprit Bumrah, with 3/14, and Hardik Pandya, with 2 wickets, pulled India back from the brink of defeat, and Pakistan was 57/1 after 10 overs.
Salim Malik appeared on a Pakistan news channel and said that Imad Wasim wasted balls on purpose and didn’t score runs to make the chase harder.
"You look at his (Wasim) innings and it appears as if he was wasting balls not scoring runs and making things difficult in the run-chase," Malik said on 24 News channel.
