Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah picked 5 wickets in between them | GettyOn June 9, India and Pakistan faced off in a thrilling match at New York's Nassau County Cricket Stadium as part of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. India had defeated Ireland before this match, and Pakistan had lost to the United States in their respective tournament openers.

Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first after the game began late and was interrupted due to rain. India lost Virat Kohli for 4 runs, and Rohit Sharma walked back for 13 runs despite a few brilliant shots.

Rishabh Pant top-scored with 42, while Akshar Patel added 20 runs as India fell from 84/4 in 11.2 overs to 119 all out in 19 overs.

Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf claimed three wickets each for Pakistan while the ground was damp.

Pakistan got off to a decent start, with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan scoring 26 runs in 5 overs. However, Babar Azam (13), Usman Khan (13), and Fakhar Zaman (13), all fell in quick succession.

Mohammad Rizwan anchored one end with 31 in 44 balls, but after he was out, Pakistan was in trouble. Hardik Pandya took important wickets in the middle order, as Indian spinners put pressure on Pakistan's lower-order batting.

Pakistan fell from 57/1 after 10 overs to needed 21 runs in the final 12 balls. Jasprit Bumrah delivered a brilliant 19th over, taking one wicket and conceding only three runs. Despite Naseem Shah's two boundaries in the final over, Arshdeep Singh successfully protected his 18-run lead.

Pakistan concluded with 113/7 and lost the game by 6 runs. Jasprit Bumrah won the Player of the Match award for his 3/14.

This is their second loss in a row in this event, while India remains at the top of Group A with four points from two games.

The Indian cricket fraternity was ecstatic as the Men in Blue showed great resilience and grit to defend the paltry total.
