Irfan Pathan, the former India cricketer, took a brutal dig at Pakistan captain Babar Azam for his slow knock in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 match against the United States of America (USA). USA and Pakistan are clashing in New York on June 6.
USA captain Monank Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first. USA bowlers kept a strong leash on Pakistan batters as Mohammad Rizwan (9), Usman Khan (3), Fakhar Zaman (11), and Azam Khan (0) failed against USA spinners and pacers.
Babar Azam anchored one end and along with Shadab Khan (40 in 25 balls) brought Pakistan back in the game. They added 72 runs for 4th wicket before Shadab fell. Babar Azam continued but fell to Jasdeep Singh after playing 43 balls and scoring 44 runs with 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name.
He fell at the score of 125 in the 16th over and his dismissal didn’t sit well with many experts on social media. Babar, as a captain should’ve finished the innings and scored big after getting set.
One of such experts was India’s Irfan Pathan, who said that Babar Azam didn’t contribute to the team’s cause.
“On a fairly decent batting condition as a captain if you are playing 40+ ball innings with 100 strike rate. You aren’t helping your team cause,” Pathan posted on X.
Pakistan posted 159/7 in 20 overs as Shaheen Afridi made 23 in 16 balls in death overs. For USA, Nosthush Kenjige picked 3/30.
