Virat Kohli will end as T20 World Cup 2024’s highest run-getter claimed Australia’s Steve Smith. India will begin their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5. India is clubbed with Pakistan, Ireland, the USA, and Canada in Group A.
Kohli enters the T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in high form, having scored 741 runs for RCB in 15 IPL matches this year. This is the primary reason Smith chose the India star to be the leading run-getter again this season.
Speaking to the ICC, the Australian batter and analyst believes Kohli is in excellent form for the event.
"My top run-getter for this tournament will be Virat Kohli. He is coming off a terrific IPL and he is bringing in some great form and I think he will be the leading run-getter,” Smith said.
Former South Africa captain Graeme Smith also went with Kohli and also added England captain Jos Buttler in the mix for being the top run-getter in the tournament.
"I am going with a top-order batter. Virat Kohli or Jos Buttler," said Graeme Smith.

Virat Kohli has an astonishing record in T20 World Cups. He has 1141 runs in the 27 matches he has played in T20 World Cups. The India star has an average of 81.50 and has scored 14 fifties at a strike rate of more than 131.
He is also the only player to win the Player of the Tournament award in consecutive seasons.
