Australia spinner Nathan Lyon has revealed his picks for the T20 World Cup 2024 finalists. The CIC event will be co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA. The tournament will begin on June 1 and the final is to be played on 29th.
For the first time, 20 teams will be playing for a chance for ICC trophy glory and they have been divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group will go into the next round, where the eight teams will be divided into two groups.
The top two teams from these two groups will enter the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 and the winners will clash in the final.
Nathan Lyon has also thrown his hat in the mix and voiced out his predictions on which teams shall face off in the final battle for international cricketing glory this time.
“For the T20 final teams, I’m going with Australia obviously because I’m quite biased towards them. I think it will be…I’m going to go to Pakistan. In those conditions, quality spin bowlers but also electric batters like Babar Azam, will help,” Nathan Lyon said in a video.
The Australian spinner believes Pakistan's balanced lineup, bolstered by the arrival of ace batter Babar Azam, will strengthen them and ensure a finals appearance this time around.
Pakistan lost to England in the final of the previous edition in 2022, but advanced to the semi-finals in the 2021 edition as well, led by Babar Azam.
The Aussies will also be coming into the tournament with undeniable success, following their World Test Championship win last year and their sensational 2023 ODI World Cup title win
