Initially, there were doubts about Kohli's selection for the squad, as reports suggested that selectors were unhappy with his approach in the shortest format.

However, Kohli once again proved his worth, shutting down critics with remarkable performances in the ongoing IPL. The RCB star is leading the chart of top run-scorers, having amassed 708 runs in 14 innings at an average of 64.36 and a strike rate of 155.60, including one hundred and five half-centuries.

With the fast-approaching T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli remains intent on helping his side get the coveted ICC trophy that has been eluding them for quite some time.

“I can say I am as hungry as ever. If I don’t have that hunger then you won’t see me at the tournament. If I don’t have that mindset then I can’t play,” Kohli said in an interview with JioCinema.

He recalled the 50-over World Cup at home last year, where India failed to cross the final hurdle but they were exceptional right through the tournament.

“When you go to tournaments like this, there is this energy and you get pulled in. Once that atmosphere is set then it is a beautiful journey. We had it in the last World Cup, we enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we were not able to finish it off, but we had an enjoyable time as a team and people loved watching us as well. I’m sure we will have a good tournament this time as well,” he said.

A lot of players that featured in the 2023 World Cup are also part of the upcoming T20 World Cup squad and Rohit Sharma’s men will be keen to play the exact same brand of cricket which has outplayed most of the oppositions.

India will open their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland in New York on June 5.
