Rinku Singh’s father Khanchandra Singh has revealed that the youngster has been left heartbroken after he was not picked in the 15-man India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. However, Rinku Singh was named as one of the four reserve players for the event which will be played in June in the USA and the West Indies.
Rinku Singh was supposed to be one of the first names on India's roster for the showpiece event, but a lack of opportunities in the IPL, combined with Shivam Dube's outstanding record, led to him missing out.
Rinku Singh's absence sparked a significant outcry, with many criticizing the selection committee for the arbitrary decision.
Rinku has an average of 89, a strike rate of 176, and 356 runs in 15 T20I games, thus he hasn't done anything wrong to be left out of the India squad; yet, due to intense competition, the selectors were unable to include him in the 15-member roster for the T20 World Cup.
Rinku Singh's father, Khanchandra Singh, said that he brought sweets and crackers to celebrate his son's selection, however, they were left disappointed with the snub.
"Umeedein to bohot this, hum mithai, patakhe laye they, socha that wo 11 main khelega. isliye thoda dukh bhi hai (We brought sweets, and crackers to celebrate, we thought Rinku would play in the first eleven). Uska dil tuta hai, usne Apni maa se baat ki aur bataya ki uska naam nhi hai,” Rinku’s father told Bharat 24.
Rinku Singh hasn’t gotten many chances due to Phil Salt and Sunil Narine doing well at the top and also was used as an impact sub in a few as well. On the other hand, Shivam Dube was in rampaging form, with 350 runs for CSK, and with him able to roll his arm over, giving him the edge against Rinku.
