Ireland qualifies for the T20 World Cup 2024; captain Paul Stirling expresses delight

Scotland needs just one more point to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Ireland will travel to the Caribbean and the USA for the T20 World Cup 2024 | ICCIreland have secured a spot in the T20 World Cup 2024 which will be played in West Indies and the USA, after their match of the T20 World Cup European Regional Qualifiers against Germany was washed out in Goldenacre, Scotland on July 27, 2023.

Not a single ball was bowled in the match between Ireland and Germany and the Irish team remained unbeaten throughout the competition having registered victories against Italy, Denmark, Austria, and Jersey before their clash against Germany resulted in a washout.

This gave Ireland 9 points with one game remaining against hosts Scotland.

This T20 World Cup qualification will give Ireland some solace after their failure to qualify for the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.

Ireland defeated Italy by 7 wickets, secured a dominant nine-wicket victory over Denmark. In their next two games, Ireland once again registered big wins – by 128 runs against Austria and by nine wickets against Jersey.

After the rained-out game against Germany, skipper Stirling expressed his joy in having booked their berth for the T20 World Cup.

"While it's true that we'd rather have achieved qualification on the field today, we're delighted to have achieved our primary objective of qualifying for next year's T20 World Cup. We came to Scotland with a clear plan and style of play we wanted to implement, and I think we delivered on that front.

So, we'll celebrate job done this afternoon, but there is a trophy on the line tomorrow and we are keen to continue that winning momentum going into the India T20 series next month,Paul Stirling told ICC.

One more spot remains open in the Europe Qualifier, with Scotland leading the race needing just one point to join Ireland in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.
