Australia women’s team won their third consecutive and sixth overall T20 World Cup title as they defeated hosts South Africa in an entertaining final in Cape Town on Sunday, February 26, 2023.
Australia captain Meg Lanning won the toss and chose to bat first in the final. South African bowlers did a good job, dismissing Alyssa Healy for 18. But Beth Mooney batted throughout the innings for 73* in 54 balls with 9 fours and 1 six. She was supported by Ashleigh Gardner (29), and Australia managed 156/6 in 20 overs.
Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp picked two wickets each and Ismail became the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20 World Cup history.

South Africa’s chase was a bit slow as Australia kept the pressure on. Laura Wolvaardt top-scored with 61 in 48 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes, while Chlore Tryon smashed 25 runs in 23 balls. But in the end, the asking rate became too much as South Africa managed just 137/6 in 20 overs.
Megan Schutt, Ashleigh Gardner, Darcie Brown, and Jess Jonassen picked one wicket each as Australia won the final by 19 runs.
This is Australia’s third T20 World Cup title in a row and sixth overall. Beth Mooney was named the Player of the Match for her unbeaten fifty, while teammate Ashleigh Gardner won the Player of the Tournament award.
The cricket fraternity was unanimous in lauding the dominant Australian team for their amazing achievement.
