India and Pakistan women’s teams clashed in the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 which is being played in South Africa. India defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets in their opening encounter in Cape Town on February 12.
Pakistan batted first after winning the toss and thanks to Bismah Maroof’s 68* and Ayesha Naseem’s 43*, the Women in Green posted 149/7 in 20 overs. For India, Radha Yadav picked 2/21 and Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma took one each.
In reply, Yastika Bhatia (17) and Shafali Verma (33) added 38 runs in 5.3 overs. But after Yastika’s wicket, Nashra Sandhu dismissed Shafali and Harmanpreet (16) in quick succession. Then it was on the shoulders of Jemimah Rodrigues to take India home and got support from Richa Ghosh.
Rodrigues made 53* in 38 balls with 8 fours and Ghosh made 31* in 20 balls, as India reached the target in 19 overs and with 7 wickets in hand. Jemimah was also named the Player of the Match.
After the match, Pakistan team players visited the Indian dressing room and it was filled with chatter and laughter between the players of the two sides. Nida Dar was seen having a laughter riot with India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who missed the match due to injury.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Nida Dar also posed with a signed jerseys of the respective teams. Players from both sides posed for a group photo as well.
India will take on West Indies on February 15, while Pakistan will lock horns with Ireland.
