The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the ‘Most Valuable Team’ of the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022 which was played in Australia and saw England becoming the champions for the second time.
In the aftermath of the final, which saw Pakistan lose an interesting encounter by 5 wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the ICC announced the "Most Valuable Team" of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
There were three Indians named in the team, with Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav being named in the XI and Hardik Pandya picked as the 12th man.
Kohli ended as the tournament's most prolific batter with 296 runs at a stunning average of 98.66. His highest score remained an amazing 82* against Pakistan at MCG helping India win a game that was almost lost. He continued his great form with 64 not out against Bangladesh, 62 not out against the Netherlands, and 50 against England in the semi-finals.
Suryakumar Yadav was the second-highest run-getter from the Indian team and finished third overall with 239 runs to his name.
His three half-centuries- 51 not out against the Netherlands in Sydney, 68 against South Africa in Perth, and 61 not out off just 25 balls against Zimbabwe in Melbourne- helped India qualify for the semi-final.
"Players from six different teams have been named in the Upstox Most Valuable Team of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022," the ICC said in a statement a day after England won their second world title in the shortest format.
Alex Hales and Jos Buttler were named as the openers of the team as the duo had decimated the Indian bowling attack in the semi-finals. Glenn Phillips, who scored a century against Sri Lanka, Sikandar Raza, Shadab Khan, and Player of the Match and Tournament, Sam Curran came in next.
Raza had an outstanding tournament with 219 runs and 10 wickets to his name, while Shadab took 11 wickets in the tournament. Sam Curran had the best bowling figures in the T20 World Cup 2022 when he picked 5/10 against Afghanistan.
Anrich Nortje (11 wickets), Mark Wood, and Shaheen Afridi were picked as the pace bowling unit.
