Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi wasn’t pleased with Mohammad Shami’s tweet to Shoaib Akhtar after the Men in Green suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the T20 World Cup 2022 final.
“Aap current team se khel rahe ho….avoid karo in cheezo ko (You are playing from the current team….avoid these things),” Afridi said on Samaa TV.
After the outcome of the final match, former Pakistan speedster Akhtar expressed his sadness with a heartbreak emoji which was quoted by Indian pacer Shami, who wrote, “Sorry brother. It’s call karma.”
For those unaware, Akhtar had taken a dig at Team India on quite a few occasions during their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign, particularly after a crushing 10-wicket loss to England in the semi-final.
Clearly, the scathing remarks did not go unnoticed by the Indian and Shami chose to hit back after Pakistan’s loss in the final.
Afridi also added, “See, we cricketers are ambassadors, we are like role models and we always try that the strains between the two countries should end. In my opinion, there shouldn’t be such things that spread hatred.”
“We should build relationships and sports is something through which our relationships can get better for the good. We want to build relationships with them (India), we want to play (cricket) with them.”
Coming to the final, Pakistan posted 137/8 on the board after being invited to bat first. Shan Masood was the top scorer with 28-ball 38.
In reply, England rode on Ben Stokes’ unbeaten 52 off 49 balls to overhaul the target with an over to spare.
