T20 World Cup 2022: “95 per cent of the time he is right,” Stokes hails Buttler for tactical acumen after title win

Jos Buttler led England to their second T20 World Cup title.

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler | GettyEngland bagged the T20 World Cup 2022 title by registering a five-wicket win over Pakistan in the final at MCG on Sunday (November 13).

Chasing 138 to win, the Three Lions were struggling at 45/3 after 5.3 overs. However, a 48-run stand between Ben Stokes (52* off 49 balls) and Moeen Ali (19) swung the game in England's favour and they eventually became the second team after West Indies to clinch the T20 World Cup title twice.

After the game, Stokes lauded skipper Jos Buttler for his tactical acumen, stating that the latter has managed to take Eoin Morgan’s legacy forward.

"Jos, obviously you know, when the great man (Eoin Morgan) stepped down and Jos took over, you look how quickly he has managed to take control of the team and progress it from the legacy that Morgs has left. And Jos has now created his own legacy - a T20 World Cup winning captain," Stokes said in an interaction with Sky Sports.

The all-rounder also credited Buttler for getting 95 per cent of the decisions right in the triumphant T20 World Cup campaign.

"But yeah, he is a guy that everyone follows in the field and I think it should not be taken for granted how hard it can be to make tactical decisions under pressure in the format that is so quick. But 95 per cent of the time he is right and we know what he can do with the bat and we are lucky to have him," he added.

With this triumph, England became the first-ever team to hold the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup at the same time.

Reacting to this achievement, Stokes said: "Feels good to say that we are the double World Champions."
