Former cricketers and pundits have been very critical of Team India following their crushing 10-wicket loss to England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022.
Various ideas have also been put out as to how the team may end its ICC tournament knockout stage jinx.
Due to their lackluster performance in the tournament, several Indian players, including Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, and KL Rahul, have drawn criticism. Many have said that these players should be dropped from the side.
In the middle of the backlash, former captain Sunil Gavaskar has called for a little patience, saying that India is known for its snap decisions and that the selection committee needs some time to reflect.
"Let's not talk about wholesale changes just because we have lost one match. We are very famous for our knee-jerk reactions and having a go at our team. I don't think that is the right way. Yes, I think that hard calls need to be taken and hopefully, the selection committee would take them," Gavaskar responded when asked if India might consider fielding a younger team for the T20Is, as quoted by India Today.
He continued by saying that the Men in Blue's inability to perform at their peak during both powerplays cost them the game versus England.
"I think the lack of winning the powerplays. Whenever we are beaten in the powerplays, we struggle to win," he said.
Although the ex-cricketer believed the selection committee would take their time before changing the line-up, he said that following the new year, one might expect to see different combinations.
"Yes, I think that will engage the selection committee's mind. If any change is going to happen, it will start after New Year once the domestic Indian season begins," he revealed.
The Men in Blue will now travel to New Zealand and Bangladesh for the back-to-back series.
