The T20 World Cup 2022 followed the recent pattern of Team India virtually unscathed in the group stages of ICC competitions only to lose in the knockout rounds.

The Men in Blue suffered an embarrassing 10-wicket loss against England on Thursday (November 10) in the second T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal.

After the loss, a lot of questions were raised about whether the Indian batters were too conservative in the powerplay overs and whether the Indian players should be allowed to participate in overseas leagues.

After the way England openers Alex Hales (86*) and Jos Buttler (80*) batted India out of the match, the "Indians should play in the overseas leagues" debate rekindled all over again.

The question of whether or not that was the same pitch where the Indian team could only manage to post a 169-run target was highlighted by the ease with which the English openers scored runs and ultimately chased down the total with 4 overs to spare.

Hales revealed after the match that playing in the Big Bash League (BBL) helped him to land that impact on one of the most formidable bowling attacks in the world. Unfortunately, none from the Indian camp has the experience of playing in any overseas league.

Amidst this debate, Pakistan pace legend Wasim Akram drew attention to the fact that the Men in Blue have not experienced any T20 World Cup triumph since the inception of their own league, the IPL in 2008.

“Everyone thought the IPL will be the big difference between India and other teams. IPL started in 2008. India won a T20 World Cup before that in 2007. Since the advent of the IPL, India have never won a T20 World Cup. They won a World Cup in 2011 but that’s 50 overs,” Akram said on A Sports.

In the previous T20 World Cup, India was knocked out in the group stage after consecutive losses to Pakistan and New Zealand. In the Asia Cup this year, the team couldn’t make it to the finals.

The finals of the ongoing showpiece event will see Jos Buttler-led side take on Pakistan at the MCG on Sunday (November 13).
