Invited to bat first, India posted 168/6 in their 20 overs with key contributions from Hardik Pandya (63 off 33 balls) and Virat Kohli (50 off 40 balls).

In reply, England got over the line without breaking a sweat. The duo of Alex Hales (86* off 47 balls) and Jos Buttler (80* off 49 balls) took the Indian bowling attack to the cleaners, sharing an unbeaten 170-run stand to overhaul the target with four overs to spare.

With this victory, England set up a clash with Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2022 final at MCG on Sunday (November 13).

After the game, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took a brutal dig at the India team on Twitter.

"So, this Sunday, it’s: 152/0 vs 170/0 #T20WorldCup," he posted, referring to India’s 10-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021.

Last year, Pakistan had pulled off a similar performance against India in Dubai as the opening pair of Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan forged a 152-run stand to beat the Men in Blue by 10 wickets.

Coming to the semi-final, India were totally outplayed in all three departments and skipper Rohit Sharma expressed his disappointment after the game.

“Pretty disappointed how it turned up today. We batted well at the backend to get that score. We were not upto the mark with the ball, we couldn't turn up today. It's all about handling the pressure in knockout games. All these guys have played enough to understand that. These guys have played under pressure in IPL games, it's all about keeping calm. We were nervy to start with, but you got to give credit to their openers, they played really well,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
