Batting at No. 4, the dashing right-hander smashed 61 not out off 25 balls, propelling India to a massive 186/5 in 20 overs.

Surya’s knock was studded with six boundaries and four sixes. Some of the lap shots that he produced during the knock left the cricket fraternity in awe, including the commentators on-air.

Speaking after the game, Suryakumar Yadav said he practices those lap shots and paddle sweeps that he executes to perfection while facing the fast bowlers.

“My plan has always been clear, I do the same thing in the nets, practice the same shots. I bat according to the situation and what the team needs,” he quoted at the post-match presentation ceremony.

During his knock, Suryakumar was involved in a 65-run stand with Hardik Pandya (18) when India lost multiple wickets in quick succession.

“I think the plan was very clear when me and Hardik were batting together. He said we should take a positive route and we started hitting the ball and never stopped,” the 32-year-old said while reflecting on the partnership.

The Men in Blue have also qualified for the semi-finals and will face England at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday (November 10).

Suryakumar said he is excited about the knockout match. “I think the atmosphere in the team is really nice and so is the build-up towards the knockout, really looking forward to that game.”

Earlier this week, Surya pipped Mohammad Rizwan to become the No. 1 ranked batter in the ICC T20I rankings.

“It feels really good, to be there. You got to start from zero every time, that’s what I think. It’s good to see people come out, let’s see how it goes in the next game,” he concluded.
