While Zimbabwe did a good job with the ball after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat, they couldn’t finish it well.

KL Rahul hit 51 runs while Rohit Sharma made 15 runs. Virat Kohli had set a good platform for himself with 26 in 25 balls but got out to a good ball from Sean Williams. Rishabh Pant made 3 runs in his first match of this tournament and Hardik Pandya made 18 in 18 balls.

Pandya had added 65 runs with Suryakumar Yadav for the 5th wicket as the Mumbai batter unleashed carnage in the last five overs or so. India had made 79 runs in the first 10 overs and then Suryakumar Yadav’s astonishing knock stunned the Zimbabwean bowlers into submission.

He slammed 61* in 25 balls with 4 sixes and 6 fours to his name and played some of the most eye-catching and breathtaking shots. He made full use of his talent of 360-degree hitting and hammered each and every bowler.

The most carnage came in the last over, when Suryakumar hit Richard Ngrava for 6,2,4, and 6 as India made 107 runs in the last 10 overs to finish on 186/5.

During his knock, Suryakumar became only the second batter to go past the 1000-run mark in T20Is in one calendar year, after record holder Mohammad Rizwan, who made 1326 runs in 2021.
