The first match of the triple-header on Sunday (November 6) shocked the cricketing world as South Africa crashed out of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022, following their 13-run defeat to Netherlands. The result left Group 2 wide open as Pakistan face Bangladesh in a virtual quarterfinal.

South African captain Temba Bavuma, won the toss and chose to bowl first, as Netherlands posted a competitive score of 158/4 courtesy contributions from Colin Ackermann (41*), Stephan Myburgh (37), Tom Cooper (35) and Max O'Dowd (29). Keshav Maharaj took 2/29 for South Africa.

In reply, only Rilee Rossouw (25), Heinrich Klaasen (21) and Bavuma (20) could mount up some sort of challenge as South Africa finished at 145/8. Brandon Glover (3/9), Fred Klaassen (2/20) and Bas de Leede (2/25) were the major wicket-takers for Netherlands as they achieved a special win.

Cricket fraternity applauded Netherlands for their showing, while expressing shock at the exit of South Africa, who were rated among the favourites for the tournament due to their strong pace attack.
