Pakistani fans on the social media site Twitter went into meltdown after India defeated Bangladesh in their Group 2 Super 12s encounter in Adelaide on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, and took another step towards semi-finals qualification.
India was asked to bat first after Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and put on 184/6 in 20 overs with Virat Kohli (64*), KL Rahul (50), and Suryakumar Yadav (30) being the main scorers, Hasan Mahmud with three and Shakib with two wickets shined for Bangladesh.
In reply, Litton Das gave Bangladesh a terrific start with a 21-ball half-century and the Tigers raced off to 66/0 in 7 overs, when rain interrupted play and when the game restarted, Bangladesh needed 151 runs to win in 16 overs. This meant they needed 84 runs more in 9 overs to win.
Then Litton Das got run out after two balls and all hell broke loose as Bangladesh kept losing wickets one after another. Despite a valiant 25* in 14 balls from Nurul Hasan and Taskin’s 12*, wasn’t enough as Bangladesh finished on 145/6 and lost by 5 runs via the DLS method.
With this win, India moved to the top of Group 2 with 6 points from 4 matches. Bangladesh remains in 3rd spot with 4 points, while South Africa is second with 5 points.
However, the Pakistan team’s probability of making it into the semi-finals went down a couple of notches as they dropped to the 5th spot with 2 points from three matches. They will face South Africa tomorrow in a must-win match and then Bangladesh on November 6, an encounter that they must win as well.
Now Pakistan can only go into the semifinals if:
1. Pakistan wins both of their matches (against South Africa and Bangladesh), and South Africa goes on to lose against the Netherlands. Pakistan will qualify for the semi-finals even if the Netherlands vs South Africa game is abandoned due to rain.
2. Pakistan wins both of their matches (against South Africa and Bangladesh), and India goes on to lose against Zimbabwe by a big margin so that their Net Run Rate drops below Pakistan.
Given that Pakistan’s chances of semi-finals hang onto so many variables, the Men in Green fans were enraged over how the Bangladesh team was cheated out of a win after umpires forced them to play on a wet outfield. Secondly, they also took digs at Virat Kohli for allegedly bullying the umpire into calling a no-ball for height.

However, despite their attempts to malign the Indian team and ruin their win over Bangladesh, the Indian fans gave a quick lesson and schooled the crying Pakistani fans on Twitter.
