Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir recently made an explosive statement on Pakistan captain Babar Azam, calling him a "selfie captain" for not taking crucial decisions as a leader, as the Men in Green are struggling in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Gambhir had lashed out at Babar for not promoting Fakhar Zaman up to the batting order and continuing to open innings for Pakistan along with Mohammad Rizwan despite not giving a good start to the Men in Green in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Notably, Gautam Gambhir had said on-air: “This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish. It is easy for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team.”

Now, Pakistani legend Wasim Akram has reacted to Gambhir’s statement on Babar.

During a discussion on Pakistani channel A Sports, Akram was asked to share his views on Gambhir’s remarks, as the anchor said: “Gautam Gambhir made a strong statement about Babar Azam's captaincy. He in fact, in his commentary, said that Babar could not have been so selfish and promoted Fakhar Zaman.”

To which, Akram responded by saying, “That's his opinion. Gautam Gambhir himself being a successful captain in IPL (Indian Premier League). Winning twice with KKR. One of the top players of his time, everybody is, I suppose has a right to give their opinion. And that's his opinion.”

Notably, Wasim Akram was the bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) when Gautam Gambhir was the captain of the franchise in the IPL.
