As Indian opener KL Rahul’s struggle with the bat continues at the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, former Team India head coach, Ravi Shastri, said that the right-hander must step up and contribute some runs at the top of the batting order, as the event heads into the final round.

India’s vice-captain has so far scored only 22 runs (4, 9, and 9) at a poor average of 7.33 in three matches against Pakistan, Netherlands, and South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2022, with the numbers really concerning for the Men in Blue.

Ahead of India’s must-win Super 12 clash against Bangladesh, the former captain and coach urged Rahul to strike form, as he could not keep putting pressure on the middle-order in the tournament.

Ravi Shastri said on ICC's 'The Big Time Preview’: “You need some more consistency from the top. KL Rahul getting some runs will help because you can't keep putting the pressure on the middle order.”

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav is in stunning form with the bat in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022, amassing 134 runs in three games at an average of 67.00 and a strike rate of 178.66 with the help of two half-centuries, and Shastri was really happy with the batter’s fireworks in Australia.

Shastri signed off by saying, “He is lighting up this world Cup. He is playing shots that no one would have imagined 10 years ago. He is one heck of a player.”
