T20 World Cup 2022: ‘We are suffering because of lesson MS Dhoni taught rest of the world,’ Ajay Jadeja on Miller’s approach

David Miller took South Africa over the line in the last over with an unbeaten half-century.

David Miller remained unbeaten on 59 off 46 balls | GettySouth Africa continued their dominance in the ongoing T20 World Cup as they defeated India by five wickets at Perth on Sunday (October 30).

Opting to bat first, the Men in Blue posted 133/9 on the board with a key contribution from Suryakumar Yadav, who slammed 68 off 40 balls on a difficult track.

In reply, the Proteas were struggling at 24/3 inside the powerplay. However, the pair of Aiden Markram (52 off 41 balls) and David Miller (59* off 46 balls) added 76 runs for the fourth wicket to put South Africa on the brink of victory.

While Markram got out in the 16th over for 41-ball 52, Miller held the one end firmly and stayed unbeaten on 59* off 46 balls to take South Africa over the line with two deliveries to spare.

After the game, former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja compared Miller's approach with the legendary MS Dhoni, who has set the template of taking the game deep and then finishing it.

"What David Miller has done with his game and taken it to another level is not by adding any shots or adding anything else. He's become calmer and waits for the opposition to make a mistake by taking the game deep. The lesson that MS Dhoni has taught the rest of the world, we are suffering because of that," said Jadeja during an interaction on Cricbuzz.

He was not impressed with Rohit Sharma's captaincy and argued that the Indian skipper could have rotated his bowlers in a more effective way.

"It felt like Rohit Sharma was not able to use his resources well or he was kind of stuck with using a particular bowler in a particular position. Arshdeep Singh could have bowled three overs at the top, but maybe he thought that then who else would take care at the backend. There are certain factors which are still not comfortable."

Despite the defeat, India's chances of making the semi-finals remain intact. The Rohit Sharma-led side is due to face Bangladesh on November 2 in Adelaide and Zimbabwe on November 6 in Melbourne.
