Ireland’s Barry McCarthy turned Superman near the boundary in their T20 World Cup 2022 match against Australia in Brisbane to save a sure shot six hit by Marcus Stoinis on October 31.
Ireland captain Andy Balbirnie had won the toss and chose to field first. Thanks to 63 from Aaron Finch and contributions from Marcus Stoinis (35) and Mitchell Marsh (28), Australia put on 179/5 in 20 overs. Barry McCarthy with 3/29 was the pick of Irish bowlers.
On the second ball of the 15th over of the Australian innings, Marcus Stoinis hit a straight high shot off Mark Adair. However, Barry McCarthy stationed at long-on jumped high in the air and took a stunning catch.
But his momentum was taking him over the boundary ropes and showing great presence of mind, he flicked the ball back into the field of play before touching the boundary padding, showing great athleticism.
He saved four runs as Stoinis only managed two runs, while McCarthy was checked by Ireland's physio near the boundary line as he had the wind knocked out of him.
