Pakistan registered their first win in the T20 World Cup 2022 as they defeated the Netherlands by 6 wickets at the Perth Stadium on October 30, Sunday. This win came after the Men in Green had lost their opening two games to India and Zimbabwe.
Babar Azam and co were asked to bowl first after Netherlands' captain Scott Edwards won the toss. However, Pakistan bowlers did a great job of keeping the Netherlands to just 91/9 in 20 overs. Shadab Khan took 3/22, while Mohammad Wasim Jr took two wickets.
In reply, Netherlands got an early wicket as captain Babar Azam was run out for 4 runs, continuing his horror run in the tournament where he had previously scored 0 against India and 4 against Zimbabwe.
But Mohammad Rizwan with 49 off 39 balls, Fakhar Zaman, playing his first match of the tournament, scored 20, while Shan Masood fell for 19 when one run was needed to win. Pakistan ultimately won the match in 13.5 overs with 6 wickets in hand.
However, during the Netherlands innings, their ace batter Bas de Leede suffered a serious injury on the 5th ball of the 6th over bowled by Haris Rauf.
Rauf’s 142 kph ball rose up from the length and hit De Leede under his right eye as he tried to pull the delivery to the leg side. This led to him receiving some treatment on the field and he had to go off the pitch retired hurt.
After getting some scans at the hospital, it was revealed that De Leede had suffered a concussion and cut under his right eye and was subbed out with Logan van Beek replacing him in the XI.
