Legendary Indian player Sunil Gavaskar stated his pleasure with Team India's preparation for the T20 World Cup 2022. He noted that the team's arrival on Australian shores 18 days prior to their opening match is evidence of how well they have prepared for the marquee event.

India practiced in Perth and played two practice game against Western Australia XI ahead of their two official warmup games.

"This time around the preparation has been fantastic. They came 18 days before their first game. They spent a week or 10 days at Perth. Maybe they did not play in the new stadium, but they practiced at the old WACA. But in the new stadium, the soil has been brought from the old stadium and that's why you are seeing a lot of bounce and a lot of carry. To practice for what they are going to get in the matches has been very smart, very well thought out," Gavaskar said in an interview with India Today.

The Indian team has been dominating the competition thus far, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan by four wickets before thrashing the Netherlands comprehensively by 56 runs.

South Africa will be the Men in Blue’s next opponent, and with the Proteas’ arsenal of pacers and fast, bouncy pitches in Perth, they will present a serious threat.

Gavaskar claimed that the Rohit Sharma-led team has the advantage over South Africa because the Proteas’s batters with the exception of a couple have not been in good touch.

"I would imagine that the game will be slightly in favor of the Indians. They have been on a roll and batted well. Against Pakistan, they held their nerve, and against the Netherlands, they showed ruthlessness. For South Africa, apart from a couple of their batters, they have not been in the best of forms. India has the new ball attack to tackle that," he said.

The clash between the two sides is slated to get underway on Sunday (October 30) in Perth.
