Pakistan on Thursday (October 27) suffered a humiliating defeat by 1 run against Zimbabwe in their second match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Perth. It was Pakistan’s second consecutive defeat in the tournament, following a 4-wicket loss to India.
An all-round strong bowling effort led by Sikandar Raza (3/25) helped Zimbabwe to hand Pakistan a shocking defeat of one run in a last-ball thriller, as the Men in Green failed to chase down 131 runs, with Shan Masood being the highest run-getter for the side with 44 runs in Perth.
Following the historical victory in Perth, Zimbabwe's President, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, took a brutal dig at Pakistan while congratulating the national side on the win at the T20 World Cup 2022. The Zimbabwean President's tweet was widely shared on social media and it eventually escalated the Pakistani Mr. Bean row.
Notably, Pakistani comedian Asif Muhammad, who is a doppelganger for Rowan Atkinson's epic comedy character, Mr. Bean, was invited to Zimbabwe to perform a show titled "Comedy Night", but it did not go as expected, with Harare locals expressing their disappointment.
Now, Mr. Mnangagwa made the most of Zimbabwe’s remarkable win over Pakistan to bring back the ''Mr. Bean" row by taking a jibe at the Asian country.
Zimbabwe's President wrote on Twitter: “What a win for Zimbabwe! Congratulations to the Chevrons. Next time, send the real Mr Bean…#PakvsZim.”
Well, the tweet didn’t go down well with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and he gave a befitting reply to Zimbabwe's President over the dig.
Sharif said: “We may not have the real Mr Bean, but we have real cricketing spirit .. and we Pakistanis have a funny habit of bouncing back :) Mr President: Congratulations. Your team played really well today.????.”
