Pakistan team failed to chase down a paltry total put up by Zimbabwe in Perth as they lost their second consecutive match in the Super 12 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in the encounter that was played in Perth on October 27, 2022.
On the day when South Africa and India, in their group matches registered a 104-run and 56-run victory respectively, Pakistan crumbled under pressure and lost their crunch match to Zimbabwe.
Craig Ervine, the Zimbabwe captain won the toss and chose to bat first. Sean Williams top-scored with 31, while the skipper made 19 runs as Zimbabwe posted 130/8 in 20 overs. Mohammad Wasim Jr picked 4/24, while Shadab Khan took three wickets for Pakistan.
In what should’ve been an easy chase, Pakistan's batting failed to build partnerships after Babar Azam fell to Brad Evans for 4 and Mohammad Rizwan got out for 14 runs. Shan Masood top-scored with 44 in 38 balls, while Mohammad Nawaz made 22 in 18 balls.
Ervine rotated his bowlers well and Sikandar Raza continued his golden 2022, as he picked wickets of Masood, Haider Ali (0), and Shadab Khan (14).
Brad Evans bowled an amazing 20th over under pressure, even getting rid of Nawaz, as Shaheen Afridi failed to get the required runs and Zimbabwe won by 1 run as the Men in Green could only make 129/8 in 20 overs.
Sikandar Raza won the Player of the Match and now Pakistan needs to win all of their next matches against Bangladesh, South Africa, and the Netherlands to stay in contention for semis qualification.
Seeing this heartbreaking loss, the Pakistan cricket fraternity was both critical and sympathetic to Babar Azam and his men and shared their reactions on Twitter.
