Rilee Rossouw put on a show with the bat in South Africa’s resounding 104-run victory over Bangladesh at Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday (October 27).
Opting to bat first, the Proteas piled up a massive 205/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Batting at No. 3, Rossouw smashed 109 off 56 balls and his knock was studded with 7 fours and 8 sixes. He was involved in a 168-run partnership with Quinton de Kock, who returned with 63 off 38 balls.
With this knock, the southpaw also became the first South African to score a T20 World Cup hundred.
Rossouw reached the three-figure mark in just 52 balls – the fourth-fastest century in a T20 World Cup. West Indies legend Chris Gayle owns the record of the fastest (47 balls) and second-fastest (50 balls) hundreds while Brendon McCullum occupies the third spot with a 51-ball ton to his name.
This was Rilee Rossouw’s second consecutive century in the shortest format of the game. He scored 100 not out in 48 balls against India in Indore the last time he batted in T20Is earlier this month.
Talking about Bangladesh’s innings, it folded for a paltry 101 in just 16.3 overs. It was a listless batting display as no one even managed to touch the 40-run mark. Litton Das was the top scorer with 34 off 31 balls.
Anrich Nortje (4-10) and Tabraiz Shamsi (3-20) were the wrecker-in-chief with the ball for South Africa, sharing seven scalps between them.
For his breathtaking century in South Africa’s win, Rilee Rossouw received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
