The Indian cricket team failed to make it to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup last year in the UAE, and in the upcoming edition of the tournament, they are without their key players, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja, and their absence will certainly have an impact on the team’s chances in Australia.

However, the former BCCI President and former captain, Sourav Ganguly, said that speaking about the past performance doesn’t make any sense, as he picked Team India as one of the firm favourites to win the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He stressed that India’s last year's debacle at the T20 World Cup 2022 would not affect the Men in Blue’s performance this year.

Sourav Ganguly told India Today: “What happened before, there is no point discussing that. India will be one of the favourites to win the tournament. In World Cup the fight is completely different.”

He added, “Those teams who will play well in those two-three weeks will make the mark. Look, it's hard to say before but we have a good side. Big hitters are there. In T20 format form is very crucial in those hours.”

The former BCCI president also picked South Africa as one of the favourites for the T20 World Cup 2022 because of their pace bowling attack, which will be effective in the Australian conditions.

Ganguly signed off by picking his semifinalists for the tournament, “I will choose India, South Africa, Australia, and England. South Africa is a good bowling side and that will be a factor in Australia.”
