The West Indian captain, Nicholas Pooran, expressed utter disappointment at the early exit of the team from the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and apologised to the fans and his teammates for his poor performance in the group stage matches.
On Friday, October 21, West Indies' hopes of making it to the Super 12s round of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 were shattered with a 9-wicket defeat against Ireland in their final group match in Hobart.
With this win, Ireland created history by qualifying for the second time for the second round of the T20 World Cup after 2009, while the two-time champions will return home with broken hearts.
Pooran said that he was gutted about the West Indies’ early exit and that he blamed himself and his batters on Friday. He scored only 24 runs in his three outings in Australia.
Nicholas Pooran said after the match: “We have disappointed our fans and ourselves. It's definitely hurting. I have disappointed my guys with the way I performed. It's tough, we haven't batted well in this tournament at all. On a really good batting surface, making 145, it's a really difficult task for the bowlers. It was going to be a challenge.”
Pooran also congratulated Ireland for qualifying for the Super 12 of the T20 World Cup 2022. He signed off by saying, “Congratulations to Ireland, they batted fantastically and bowled well today. There are a lot of positives, Jason is back to bowling well, King is batting wonderfully, and Joseph is stepping up with the ball for us. This is a learning experience for us.”
