Former Australian captain and commentator Ricky Ponting heaped praise on Virat Kohli for his contribution to the game of cricket, especially in Test and ODI cricket, both as batter and captain during the T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up match between India and Australia on October 17.

Kohli is undoubtedly one of the legends of the modern game and has taken the Indian cricket team to new heights while exceptionally leading the side. However, the dashing right-hander couldn’t win a World Cup or any ICC trophy for India as a captain despite shattering many records both as skipper and batter over the years.

Well, Kohli is no more Team India’s captain, but still, he is among one of the best captains across the formats of the modern era and Ponting admitted that fact. The Aussie legend hailed Kohli as the best-ever batter in white-ball cricket while hailing his captaincy in Test and ODI cricket.

Notably, Kohli led India in 95 ODIs, winning 65 of them while losing 27 matches, and he has so far amassed 12344 runs in 262 matches. He also has a great record as a Test captain, winning 40 matches out of 68 Tests as India's captain. It makes him the 6th most successful Test captain in the world.

Commentating during the T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up game between India and Australia, Ponting said that Kohli has done an unbelievable job in ODI cricket and described him as the best white-ball player he has seen.

Ricky Ponting from the commentary box: “He has led his team really well. The win in Australia in the Test series in Australia is amazing. Not sure I've seen a better white-ball cricketer ever. What he does in One-Day International cricket is unbelievable. His records are amazing.”
