T20 World Cup 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as Scotland outplays West Indies; defeats them by 42 runs

Scotland provided the second upset of the ongoing tournament after Namibia had defeated Sri Lanka.

George Munsey was given Player of the Match for his fifty | GettyScotland caused the second upset of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 as they defeated two-time T20 World Champions West Indies in the 3rd match of the tournament’s qualifying round which was played on October 17, 2022, at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran won the toss and chose to bowl first. George Munsey opened the innings and remained unbeaten on 66 in 53 balls with 9 fours on a difficult pitch to bat on. Calum Macleod (23) and Michael Jones (20) were the other significant scorers as Scotland finished on 160/5 in 20 overs.

Alzarri Joseph with 2/28 and Jason Holder with 2/14 was the pick of West Indies bowlers.

In reply, West Indies batters just couldn’t come to terms with the pitch and lost wickets regularly. Kyle Mayers made 20, Jason Holder top-scored with 38, while Brandon King made 17 runs as Scottish bowlers troubled the opposition batters.

Mark Watt took 3/12 in his 4 overs, while Brad Wheal and Michael Leask took two wickets, as West Indies could only make 118 runs in 18.3 overs and lost the match by 42 runs.

George Munsey was awarded the Player of the Match for his half-century.

Meanwhile, the cricket fraternity was all praises for the Scotland team as they recorded an important victory in their effort to qualify for the main round of the T20 World Cup 2022.
