Pakistan received a major boost ahead of their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 opener against India, as their star speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi and explosive opener Fakhar Zaman joined the national squad in Brisbane on Sunday (October 16).
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), on Sunday shared a video on Twitter, which showed Shaheen and Fakhar Zaman seen warmly meeting with their teammates, as the duo reunited with the Pakistan T20 World Cup 2022 squad in Brisbane on Sunday.
While Fakhar arrived in Australia as a replacement for Usman Qadir after successfully recovering from the hairline fracture on his right thumb, Afridi returned to the national side after lengthy rehabilitation following knee surgery in England. The pacer has been out of action since July 2022.
Well, it was overall great news for the Pakistan camp, as their star pacer – who wreaked havoc on India’s top order in the last edition of the tournament – has returned to the side ahead of their blockbuster T20 World Cup 2022 clash with Team India on October 23 at the MCG.
Meanwhile, in the video shared by the PCB on Twitter, Afridi, and Zaman were seen catching up with the Pakistan coaches and players in Brisbane on Sunday.
PCB captioned the video by saying: “Shaheen Afridi and Fakhar Zaman reunite with Pakistan's #T20WorldCup squad in Brisbane ????.”
Notably, Afridi has been declared fit to play in the warm-up matches, but Zaman is expected to continue his rehabilitation in the build-up to the T20 World Cup 2022 and is likely to play against India. Pakistan will play two warm-up matches against England (October 17) and Afghanistan (October 19) in Brisbane.
