The Indian team will play their first warmup match of the T20 World Cup 2022 on October 17 in Brisbane against Australia and the Men in Blue geared up for the match with the BCCI sharing some clips from the nets session.
The focus of the video shared by the Indian board was fast bowler Mohammad Shami, who replaced Jasprit Bumrah in the 15-member India squad recently. He had joined the Indian squad after completing and passing his fitness test at the NCA in Bengaluru after a bout with Covid left him unable to play in the home T20Is against Australia and South Africa.
The experienced pacer has not played a T20I since the last 20-over World Cup in 2021 as it was reported that he would be restricted to playing ODIs and Tests as part of the plans for workload management.
Mohammad Shami was chosen as one of the standby players by the BCCI selectors in a surprise move as he hadn't played a T20I for a long time but had an impressive outing in the IPL 2022 for Gujarat Titans, who won the tournament and he finished with 20 wickets, playing all 16 matches.
Now with Bumrah ruled out of the tournament due to a stress reaction to his back, the BCCI selectors opted for Shami, who had the extended experience of multiple tours down under and also played in the 2015 World Cup in Australia.
The BCCI shared a video of Mohammad Shami preparing for the tournament on the eve of the first warmup match with the caption reading: “Raring to go. Mohammad Shami hits the ground running. #TeamIndia, #T20WorldCup"
