The Deepti Sharma-Charlie Dean run-out saga doesn't seem to be dying down for now, as the controversial way of running out the batter at non-striker's end was raised at the pre-ICC T20 World Cup 2022 press conference in Brisbane on Saturday (October 15).
Yesterday, Mitchell Starc's sarcastic warning to Jos Buttler during a T20I match between Australia and England led to a fiery exchange between the two and caught everyone’s attention, as the speedster mentioned Deepti while referring to her legal act at Lord’s.
Well, it has only sparked the non-striker run-out debate, as a journalist asked all the captains whether they will take advantage of the ICC’s rule if they get the opportunity during the T20 World Cup at the mega pre-tournament press conference on Saturday in Melbourne.
Well, the question left all 8 captains in an awkward situation, as the captains of England, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Namibia, Sri Lanka, UAE, and the Netherlands were in absolute silence when they were asked to raise their hands if they were willing to answer the question.
The journalist asked if they would run a non-striker out before the ball is bowled, and surprisingly, no one raised their hand to answer. A short clip of the awkward moment went viral on social media.

Notably, the rule of running a batter out at the non-striker’s end is often considered against the spirit of the game, but in the rule books, it is legal, and it has now been moved from the "Unfair Play" section to the "Run out" section.
