T20 World Cup 2022: India loses to WACA XI in second practice match by 36 runs; KL Rahul makes 74, Ashwin takes 3/32

India will now play Australia in warmup match on October 17 in Brisbane.

The Indian team lost the second practice match to Western Australia XI (WACA) which was played at the WACA ground in Perth on October 13, 2022, by 36 runs. India had won the toss and chosen to bowl first with KL Rahul captaining the side.

Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal were rested for this match, while R Ashwin was brought into the XI. Rohit Sharma was also named in the playing XI but didn't bat. 

For the WACA XI, D’Arcy Short made 52 in 38 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes, while Nicholas Hobson made 64 in 41 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes as the side made 168/8 in 20 overs.

For India, R Ashwin took 3/32, all wickets coming in one over, as he dismissed Cameron Bancroft, Ashton Turner, and Sam Fanning, while Harshal Patel also took 2/27.

In reply, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant opened the innings, but Pant (9) and then Deepak Hooda at no.3 (6) failed to impress. Hardik Pandya made 17 and Dinesh Karthik made 10, as Indian batting failed to come to terms against the WACA XI bowling attack.

KL Rahul was the sole face-saver as he made 74 in 55 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes to his name as India finished 20 overs on 132/8 and lost the match by 36 runs. For WACA XI, Matthew Kelly, Lance Morris, and Hamish McKenzie picked two wickets each.

The Indian team will now face off against Australia in a warmup match ahead of T20 World Cup 2022 on October 17 in Brisbane and then will face New Zealand on October 19 at the same venue.
