South Africa names replacement for injured Dwaine Pretorius for T20 World Cup 2022

Pretorius suffered a fracture to his left thumb before 1st ODI against India.

Marco Jansen | BCCIMarco Jansen, the tall left-arm pacer has been named as the official replacement of injured Dwaine Pretorius in South Africa’s 15-man squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 to be played in Australia from October 16 onwards.

Pretorius, who had traveled to India for the T20Is and ODI series, broke his thumb on his left hand ahead of the first ODI and was ruled out of the India series and the T20 World Cup 2022 as well. He was replaced in the South Africa squad by Marco Jansen for three ODI series.

Now it has been confirmed in a tweet that Jansen, who was also in the three-man reserves list for the T20 World Cup, along with Andile Phehlukwayo and Bjorn Fortuin, will replace Pretorius in the T20 World Cup 2022 squad as well.

Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) National Selection Committee has today named Marco Jansen in the 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The 22-year-old bowler replaces the injured Dwaine Pretorius after he was ruled out due to a fracture sustained to his left thumb during the recent T20 International series against India,” CSA confirmed in an official release on Wednesday, October 12.

CSA also confirmed that right-arm quick Lizaad Williams has now been called up to replace Jansen in the stand-bys.
