T20 World Cup 2022: India defeats Western Australia by 13 runs in practice match; Suryakumar and Arshdeep shine

India kicked off their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2022 with a 13-run win over Western Australia in a practice game on Monday, October 10, 2022, at the WACA stadium in Perth.

Superb bowling spells from pacers Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and a half-century from in-form Suryakumar Yadav powered India, who will play New Zealand and Australia in warm-up games.

Chasing 159, Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar got wickets of D’Arcy Short and Ashton Turner while Arshdeep Singh also got two wickets as WA was reduced to 29/4 in 6 overs. Chahal then picked one wicket to make it 68/5 in 11 overs.   

Sam Fanning kept the other end steady while Hamish McKenzie also kept the scoreboard ticking. Fanning completed his half-century before being dismissed by Arshdeep for 59 runs. Needing 32 runs in the last over. Western Australia finished on 145/8 in 20 overs.

Arshdeep ended with figures of 3/6, while Bhuvneshwar got two wickets for 26 runs. Chahal got 2/15 and Harshal Patel got a wicket as well.

Suryakumar Yadav hit 52 | BCCIElecting to bat first, Team India was off to a shaky start as they lost their first wicket at a score of 15, as Rohit Sharma (3) fell to Jason Behrendorff. The left-armer got rid of Deepak Hooda who had made a quick 22 runs as India finished the powerplay at 39/2.

Rishabh Pant struggled for 9 runs in 17 balls before Andrew Tye got rid of him, as India teetered on 45/3 in 7 overs. But then Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya consolidated the innings, adding 49 runs, with Hardik making 27 runs in 20 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav made 52 off 35 (3x4, 3x6), while Dinesh Karthik with 19* took India to 158/6 in 20 overs.
