Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022, Team India have suffered a massive blow as ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the showpiece tournament with a back injury.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday (October 3) released a statement to confirm the development.
“The BCCI Medical team has ruled out Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. The decision was taken following a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists,” the board said in a media release.
Bumrah was initially ruled out from the ongoing three-match T20I series against South Africa due to a back injury.
The Chetan Sharma-led selection has named Mohammed Siraj as Bumrah’s replacement for the last two T20Is versus South Africa.
“The BCCI will be naming a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the marquee tournament soon,” the press release further stated.
India will begin their T20 World Cup 2022 campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23.
